It’s not even been a fortnight since the controversial Tanishq ad was aired, and there has been another horrific instance to show just how far the ad was divorced from reality.
Yesterday, a 21-year-old B.Com student named Nikita Tomar was shot dead in broad daylight by two men outside the Aggarwal college in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. In the CCTV footage of the incident, a man can be seen trying to abduct Nikita in their car. As Nikita resists, one of them shoots her point blank in the head, and she immediately collapses. The two men then flee in their vehicle.
It has now been revealed that the man who’d shot Nikita was named Taufeeq, who has been arrested. “One of the accused identified as Taufeeq hailing from Sohna was known to the victim and a complaint against him had been lodged by the victim’s kin a few months ago for harassment and molestation but a compromise had been reached,” ACP (Ballabgarh) Jaiveer Rathi. He added that ‘rejection of friendship’ could be a motive behind the crime.
Nikita Tomar’s family has said that she was being forced to convert her religion and marry the accused. Taufeeq had been forcing Nikita to convert her religion for the last three years. When she refused to convert to Islam, the accused tried to abduct her and shot her dead in the broad daylight.
According to the police, Tausif was very angry at Nikita as she had stopped taking calls from him and she had also blocked his number. The accused knew that she will be taking her exam yesterday and he was waiting for her along with his friend outside the college.
Protests have erupted across Faridabad after the friends of Nikita Tomar today staged a demonstration outside the Aggarwal College where she was shot dead, and demanded justice for her. The students are demanding stringent punishment for those responsible for the heinous crime.
The entire incident flies in the face of leftist propaganda that was perpetuated by Tanishq in its ad, in which a Muslim family was lovingly allowing a Hindu bride to perform her religious rituals even after being married into a Muslim household. The very day the ad was released, two Hindu men had been killed by the families of their Muslim partners. In Bengaluru, Hindu man Lakshmipathi was killed by the family of his Muslim girlfriend because her father was opposed to the inter-faith union, and in Delhi, 18-year-old Rahul was murdered by Mohammad Afroz, Mohammad Raj and 3 others over his relationship with a Muslim girl. A day later, a Hindu woman had set fire to herself in UP alleging harassment by her Muslim in-laws. A few days after that, a 23-year-old woman’s throat had been slit by her boyfriend Mustafa and his brother for asking to be married.
