AAP MLA Claims UP Govt Beating Migrants From Delhi, Deletes Tweet After Yogi Govt Says It’ll Take Action Against Him

Even as the country is coming together to battle the coronavirus, Aam Aadmi Party is still doing what Aam Aadmi Party does best.

AAP MLA Raghav Chadha yesterday claimed that the Yogi government was beating up migrants who were leaving Delhi and heading home towards Uttar Pradesh. “Sources tell me that Yogi ji is getting people who moving from Delhi to UP thrashed. Yogi is also asking them why they’d gone to Delhi, and that they wouldn’t be allowed to go to Delhi henceforth. I appeal to the UP government to not do this, please don’t cause them more hardship in these difficult times,” he said.

It was an extraordinary claim to make — there had been no media reports of people being beaten up anywhere, and to claim that CM Yogi had personally ordered it seemed even more outrageous. At this point, Mrityunjay Kumar, the media advisor to the UP Chief Minister, said that UP govt and police will take definite action against Raghav Chadha.

Not long after, Raghav Chadha deleted his tweet. But the damage might have been done — at a time when lakhs were trying to desperately move from Delhi to UP, for an AAP MLA to claim that the government was beating people up was reckless, and had the potential to cause alarm and panic.

But Aam Aadmi Party and its MLA has a history of stoking volatile situations with fake news and claims. During the CAA protests in Delhi last year, after several Delhi Police buses had been burnt, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia had sensationally claimed that Delhi Police had themselves set fire to the buses. This had later been proven to be conclusively false, but the rumours had persisted long after the leaders’ claims had been debunked.

Raghav Chadha, though, might not get off so easy. CM Yogi’s Media Advisor Mrityunjay Kumar tweeted that a complaint against AAP MLA Raghav Chadha has been filed in Noida on Sunday under IPC section 500, 505(2) and section 66 of the IT Act for making false claims and creating hatred in the society.

“There is no point in deleting, Raghav Chadha. UP Police is giving a befitting reply to your petty politics. This will be a lesson to all those who lie against the UP government and get away with it,” Kumar tweeted.

The complaint reads, “His malicious and deliberate action is not only dangerous to the maintenance of law and order but also it will create panic among the people who are going to their native places at this difficult time due to coronavirus pandemic.”
