Gorakhpur: One Wasim Accused Of Kidnapping, Assaulting And Forcing A Minor Girl To Convert, Love Jihad Case Registered

Even after the Love Jihad law has been enacted in Uttar Pradesh, cases of the practice continue to stream in from the state.

A man has been accused of kidnapping and forcing a minor girl to convert her religion in the Bansgaon thana region of Gorakhpur, Navbharat Times reports. One Wasim, allegedly with the help of his father Naseeruddin, took the minor girl to his friend Shamsher’s place. The father-son duo allegedly assaulted the girl, and after that began forcing her to convert her religion. Wasim, Naseeruddin and Shamsher are now being questioned after the victim’s father lodged a case with the police.

The police have registered a case under sections 354, 370, 363, 366, in addition to the new Love Jihad law. Because the girl was a minor, the Police have also invoked the POCSO Act.

This is only the latest instance in which the Love Jihad law has had to be invoked in Uttar Pradesh. Three weeks ago, also in Gorakhpur, one Moinuddin had been arrested for pretending to be Munnu Singh to marry a woman, and later forcing her to convert. In Muzaffarnagar, the police had registered a case against two men named Nadeem and Salman for trying to force a married Hindu woman to convert to Islam.
