A woman in Hyderabad has been stabbed by her stalker, and her condition is critical.
Sujana, 29, who works at an IT company in Gachibowli, was attacked with a knife by one Shahrukh. Shahrukh, 29, worked as a hairstylist and was from Haryana. Police say Shahrukh and Sujana knew each other for the past three years, but had recently had a falling out.
Yesterday, Shahrukh had visited Sujana’s home in Hydershah Kote in Narsangi, and asked her to step out for a discussion. At that point, he allegedly attacked her with a knife. Sujana’s mother, who stepped forward to save her daughter, also sustained injuries. A video of the incident had also gone viral on social media. In the video, the woman is seen injured on her chest and abdomen and lying unconscious on a chair in her house, while her parents held her as they waited for medical help.
Locals, however, had caught Shahrukh as he was trying to escape after stabbing the woman, and handed him over to police. Shahrukh’s behaviour had previously caused alarm within Sujana’s family — her father had reportedly earlier complained to the SHE team of Cyberabad Police about him.
An attempt to murder case was booked against the accused at Narsingi police station under the limits of Cyberabad police commissionerate. Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Madhapur) M Venkateshwarlu visited the scene of the crime.
“He attacked her with the knife he had brought along with him. She was shifted to a nearby hospital, where her condition was stated to be stable,” said the Narsingi police, who have registered a case and taken up investigation. The victim’s statement is yet to be recorded. Efforts are on to nab the suspect, they said, adding that footage from surveillance cameras in the surroundings was being examined.
Hyderabad has seen a surge in cases of women being stabbed after relationships go sour. Just four months ago, Syed Mustafa had stabbed 23-year old Radhika, who he was in a relationship with, to death.
