The 4 men were being taken to the scene of the original crime at National Highway 44 to recreate the events of last week when the encounter happened, Republic reported. At that point, they tried to make a bid to escape and attempted to snatch the pistols of the police officers, following which the police gunned them down. The events unfolded between 4 and 5 am on Friday morning.
Republic TV reported that Mohammad Arif (26), the chief accused in the crime, directed the other 3 accused, Jollu Shiva (20), Jollu Naveen (20) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu (20), to attack the police when the police retaliated. The men were shot 100 metres away from where the body of the vet was found. They were rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to bullet injuries.
The father of the vet who’d been raped and murdered has reacted to the news. “It has been 10 days to the day my daughter died. I express my gratitude towards the police & govt for this. My daughter’s soul must be at peace now,” ANI quoted him as saying.
