Even as India being extra cautious over health and cleanliness as it battles the coronavirus epidemic, a disturbing number of spitting cases are now coming to light.
A fruit seller in Rajasthan, Chand Mohammad, and his son have been arrested by the police after video emerged of them spitting in the weighing bowl before putting bananas in them. The incident occurred at the Mathura Gate area in Bharatpur in Rajasthan. Their actions were caught on CCTV.

The person the duo had sold fruits to had complained to the police. In the CCTV video, Chand Mohammad’s son can be seen spitting into the bowl, before proceeding to weigh fruits in it.
Times Now later reported that the duo had been arrested. The police complaint had been made by a retired police inspector, following which the arrests were made.
This is only the latest in a series of incidents in which people have been caught spitting during the coronavirus epidemic. Earlier, a doctor had claimed on live TV that Tablighi Jamaat members were spitting as they were being bundled into buses to be taken into quarantine. Later, Indian Railways officials had alleged that Jamaat members were spitting on doctors while they were being transported. A video from February had also emerged of a fruit seller in Rajasthan who had been caught rubbing saliva on fruits before selling them, and was later arrested. A controversial TikTok video had also been made by Tik Tok star Shadab Khan, in which he’d shown how transmitting saliva could be used as a means of revenge. Just yesterday, one Amir Khan from Mumbai was arrested for having spat on a woman from Manipur.
